Television and Heroes

For my class, I was asked to use my observations of today’s televison and find examples of heroes. Ironically, the best example of this comes from the show “Heroes”. For those who don’t watch the show, “Heroes” tells the story of ordinary individuals who begin to discover that they have extraordinary powers, such as flight, time travel, advanced healing, etc. The show doesn’t follow the convention of portraying heros in the manner of superman. This is to say that all of the characters on “Heroes” are not embodied moral ideals. Instead, “Heroes” stresses human nature. Viewers get inside the head of the characters and feel the struggle surround how they should use their powers. Despite its frequent use of science fiction and fantasy, “Heroes” creates an interesting “What if?” scenario for the viewers.
