Glamour in “How to Get Ahead in Advertising”
Within the context of communication, the definition of glamour is slightly different than the one from Pop culture. Simply stated, glamour is envy or the cause of it. In the film “How to Get Ahead in Advertising” there are many examples of this sense of glamour. Aside from Bagley the protagonist’s entire lifestyle which consists of an attractive wife, well-paying and comfortable job, expensive car and sizable home, glamour presents itself in a variety of other events. For example, When proposing advertisment ideas to himself, Bagley exploits glamour through the concept of an attractive female biochemist. When, Bagley begins to have his nervous breakdown, his boss suggests he go on vacation and take as much time off as possible. I know I would be envious.
